Bulgarian Development Bank (BDB) is the general sponsor of the team of students in mathematics up to 16 years of age from the Sofia High School of Mathematics Paisii Hilendarski for its participation in one of the best competitions of this type, which this year will take place in Thailand, TIWYMIC. The international event will be held from 20th to 30th of October.
"BDB’s mission is to encourage the development of Bulgarian economics and innovations and it comes from young and talented people. It is a pleasure for us to support out mathematicians and we hope we can help them achieve their future success”, the BDB Executive Director Dimitar Dimitrov stated.
The team in that age group will include Daniel Krasimirov Dobrev, Radoslav Ivanov Kafov, Lyuba Ventsislavova Bozhilova and Rayna Lazarova Andreeva. Petya Todorova and Iliyana Tsvetkova are the team leaders, both teaching mathematics in the high school.
More than 50 teams from all over the world will participate in the Thailand competition. About 90% of them are from Asia. The teams will compete on two stages: at the first stage each participant will solve 12 + 4 problems and at the second stage the teams will have to solve 10 problems.
The students have already participated successfully in a number of international competitions this year. Victor Valov took a gold medal in 2005 in the Philippines and Daniel Dobrev was first in Hong Kong in 2006. Last year the team participated for the first time in the age group up to 16 years. Our representatives took two silver (Victor Valov and Daniel Dobrev) and one bronze medals (Mihail Hurmuzov). In 2007 Daniel Dobrev presented himself in a fitting manner on the Balkan competition in mathematics for students up to 15 years of age and this year Radoslav Kafov won a silver medal at the same event.
